There are some who don’t like the fact you need to log into the game server to play. Compared to the process for other games, it is very easy, and just as simple if you buy through Steam. Which brings you here, to the main menu screen.Ĭouldn’t be simpler. You log in to the 1CGS server and click enter. The setup program downloads the main game files, checks they are up to date, and then you can click ‘Play’ and start.įrom this setup screen you can also go to the game forums, get support and adjust your settings and it will always check to see if your game is up to date before it launches. You download a setup program, then you get the screen above. If you are waiting for a ‘but’…there isn’t one! Like any game, it has parts I love, parts I like, and parts I can’t abide, but as a whole it is definitely worthy of your time.Īs I said, I bought into the game in the early access phase, and my setup experience has been the same since day one thanks to the very smooth setup interface. To me this game is a valuable addition to an all too small niche in PC gaming, which is the flight game genre, and I am more than happy to see the launch version on my hard drive at last. I bought into it as a ‘founder’ member more than a year ago when early access was opened up, and haven’t regretted that at all. Let me say up front there is a lot to like about this game. It is against the setting of this epic seige from October 1942 to January 1943, that IL2 Battle of Stalingrad from 1C RG Studios, takes place. The Russian army lost 1.1 million men, of which 489,000 were killed. Half a million German troops were lost in the Battle dead, wounded or captured. The Battle of Stalingrad is widely recognised as the rock against which the previously invincible Germany army broke the tip of its Spear. ![]() There was hardly a moment when German aircraft were not overhead…by that time, the 8th Air Army was down to fewer than 200 machines of all types, of which only two dozen were fighters.” – Antony Beevor, Stalingrad. Echo is not a recommended objective to drop anyone off at, especially when the entire point of this achievement is staying alive.“During six days of fighting from 14 October 1942, the Luftwaffe maintained relays of aircraft attacking river crossings and troops. I took only one group to Echo and was shot down as I was taking off after a drop-off. I don't have any good LZs for those who decide to play as an AAF pilot but it wouldn't be recommended to take groups to Alpha as an AAF pilot or Echo as a NATO pilot. >If you are transporting troops constantly and with success, the AAF should never reach Objective Alpha. This is the only drawback of a nighttime setting. Door gunners do a lot of work in the daytime, but at night they rarely fire, and only at very close enemy infantry. Make sure you know how to use countermeasures! ![]() While rare, this is a serious threat because it destroys you mid-air and doesn't allow a crash landing (speaking from experience). On only one occasion have I been locked on to by an AAF missile over Objective Delta. When approaching a group of soldiers, you'll have to touch the Ghost Hawk within 80-100 meters of the group's leader, and you must land them within 270 meters of the marked LZ on your map (which is always in the center of the objective and is never a good idea). The best way to know if you were killed or not is that your respawn will be instantaneous if you survived the crash. If you are shot down and it plays a clip of your pilot getting out and running away, the achievement is still counting towards your 10 total deliveries. ![]() First off, "being killed" ONLY means actually being killed or dying, where it shows up on your 'Statistics' page as a casualty. The tricky "Airbridge" achievement requires you to transport 10 groups of soldiers to their LZ of choice without being killed.
